Happy FIRST Birthday, Princess P!

WE MADE IT!!!....through year one, that is. Healthy and happy! It's been an AMAZING year of our lives, more than we could have ever imagined. When you are about to become a first-time parent, it's so scary. You don't know exactly what to expect, what to do in certain situations, etc, but we did it, and will be doing it again SOON!!

Payton has been THE BEST baby ever. Sleeping and eating well, growing, learning, and becoming such a sweet little girl, so full of entertainment and personality. We look forward to watching her continue to hit each milestone and grow into a young lady we will certainly be very proud of.

We had Payton's first year doctor's appointment on Monday. Here are the stats: 25 lbs, 11 oz (97%), 31.25 inches (97%), and 90th in head size. I asked the doctor about her size, and she said because both her height and weight are in proportion, she is healthy as she can be, and she expects, by the time Payton is 2, because she's so active, that she'll be tall and thin. We'll see!
Another item to note, she didn't have one ear infection, and she has never had to take antibiotics! From what I hear, this is pretty amazing & unheard of! We topped off the appointment with a finger prick and 2 shots. Needless to say, tears were shed, and Payton was not very happy with the nurse :O

So, about the birthday party....on Thursday, April 7th, P's birthday, the Collins family and our neighbors, Doug and Brenda, came over for dinner. Payton had her first birthday cake, and other than the occasional graham cracker, this was her first "real" sweet. She had NO problem finishing her piece of cake, and then enjoyed smearing the icing into her hair, and everything around her. It quickly became bath time! Then, on Saturday, we had a joint party with Payton's BFF, Raegan Boughman. Her birthday is just two days after Payton's, April 9th, and the day of the party. It started out sunny, warm (approaching 80 degrees), and quite breezy. We prepared the decorations, set-up, food, etc. only to have everything blown around. Many helium balloons were blown away, and Jeremy, Raegan's dad, came to our rescue, going to the store for more. We had around 42 adults, 22 kids, and 4 babies at the party, so a GREAT turn-out! We had burgers, dogs, snacks, and a cake with cupcakes. Then around 5pm-ish, the skies turned quite cloudy, much cooler (okay, chilly!), and the wind picked up. We moved all the presents under the covered area, and moved the girls into the clubhouse where we sang "Happy Birthday" to them and gave them their cupcakes. About that time, there was A LOT of commotion outside. Not only was it pouring rain sideways, the sky was falling! There was GOLF BALL SIZED hail coming down....and this lasted for a good 10-15 minutes. The kids kept running out to grab pieces and throw them in the freezer. It was the craziest weather I'd ever seen! When that let up, the skies still looked quite ominous....supposedly a neighbor rushed up to warn us that a tornado had been spotted on the lake, and was moving our way! That created quite a panic, as you could imagine, and everyone cleared out of the clubhouse, and into the downstairs of our little townhome. It was CRAZY, although Brian was disappointed there were no actual tornadoes! The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever! Well, the hail started again, and the storms continued all night. We managed to get most of the food and presents back over to the house, and the girls opened everything. They received some really fun, and nice, gifts. Lots of toys and clothes...a lot of the same stuff. Cheryl and I can't wait to dress the girls up like "twins" this summer ;) It was a first birthday party that won't soon be forgotten....and I'M SO SORRY for everyone there who had hail damage to their cars. I took mine into the shop yesterday for assessment.... to a tune of $3000 damage! What we thought was so cool, really left a lot of damaged cars, roofs, and property.

The pregnancy update: I had a regular check up exam yesterday. My BP was something like 108/72, and I've only gained 5 pounds! I'm 22.5 weeks along, or almost 6 months. At this point with Payton, I'd gained almost 25 pounds, so I'm really doing a LOT better this pregnancy. Maybe I can gain a little (a lot) less than the 45 pounds I gained with her!!! I'm still managing to scrape out 12-15 miles running/walking each week. I'm definitely a lot slower, but I'm getting out there :) The baby's heartrate was lower, at 146, and growing right on track. We will have one more ultrasound, just to make sure the fluid levels are still okay, since I had a problem with low fluid last pregnancy.

We are having some professional 1 year and family pictures done on Sunday....so hopefully I'll have some good ones to post soon! Thanks for keeping up with the Kuglers :)
