Some of the pictures from Griffin's photoshoot...8 days old :)

Below...Payton on the boogie board. NO FEAR!

...so Labor Day has come and gone. It always passes by too quickly! I love our family Labor Day beach trips, and this year was particularly fun, since Payton is old enough to enjoy the beach. Brian played in the annual croquet tournament, and won...again! I was worried about having to tote, keep up with, diaper, feed, clean, etc two babies, but between Brian, my parents, and all our friends, we managed just fine! Next year should be really interesting!

Payton was so much fun this year...she thoroughly enjoyed the beach, sand, ocean, and of course, the pool. She loved playing with the "big girls," Caroline (5) and Julia (6). The older kids, Kate (8) and Whitt (7) had boogie boards, which they shared with Payton. She kept watching them and pointing. When I asked her if she wanted to try it out, she shook her head "yes," and off she went. I told her to lie down on it, and she rode the smaller waves in. I let her go all by herself. She did this about 6 times, taking diggers to her face in the sand and water, going back again each time!! I imagine she'll be on a wakeboard and snowboard in a couple of years, no problem! Our little daredevil! Payton is also communicating better and better, through her own form of sign language and also starting to say more and more words. She started school this past Tuesday, and many of the kids in her class are speaking pretty well, so that must be wearing off on her. The other day we had the TV on a kids' show, and she paid particular attention to a "Dance With Me" baby doll commercial... the doll actually dances, as she does when the commercial is on. She turned to me, pointed to the TV with a huge smile, then put her hands out and moved her fingers back and forth (like give me one, mommy!!) I asked her if she wanted one, and she shook her head yes with much excitement. How's that for target marketing? I guess that one goes on the Christmas list! Payton is LOVING her Mother's Morning Out, which she attends 4 days a week (off on Thursdays). I was concerned about her having to wake up so early (7:45am) to get to school by 9am, then not getting a nap until 1:30. She's actually handled it better than expected, but sometimes gets a little whiny after lunchtime. She cries with complete exhaustion when Granby or I arrive to pick her up, and quickly falls asleep in the car on the way home. The highlight of her day is getting to wash her hands at the handwashing station before entering her classroom. It's a low sink, with 3 spigots and automated soap and paper towel dispensers. She would stay there all day if we let her!

Things to note: -Payton was given snacks and lunch on the beach...most of it dropped into the sand, and some into the salt water, which was quickly gobbled up. I think her teeth have some additional sheen and shine to them ever since ;) -Griffin enjoyed taking in the salt air while going on our runs in the morning, and watching the water and birds in the waterway. -I got a couple chances to lie on the beach and soak up some sun...and had a blast taking Payton into the "big" waves! -The "mine" phase has started, although Payton isn't doing it toward others...she will grab Griffin's blankie, hug it, and say "mine!" I remind her that it's her brother's, but he will share it with her. She's become great at sharing, and we hope that continues! -She's become proficient in going down the stairs by herself, but we still hold her hand...just in case! -Payton LOVES Elmo, and in particular, the video and song, "Elmo's Song." It has been stuck in my head for the past week. Ugh. She points at my laptop and sings "La-la la-la..." the chorus of the song.
-And she loves playing in play kitchens, at school and friend's houses. If we can find room, we may get her one of her own.

Griffin is already a month old! It's SO hard to believe, and feels like I was just in the hospital last week. He is getting so strong, holding his head up pretty well, and becoming very observant. Early last week I noticed he is smiling, on purpose, back at us. He's quite handsome, if I do say so myself! He's still like clockwork at night, waking about every 3.5-4 hours to eat. We are looking forward to extending that to the entire night!! He has more awake time during the day, and is starting to show some signs of working toward getting on a schedule, which is nice since I officially started working from home this week. Somehow I always manage to get more done at home, probably because I like to work under pressure!

The Greek Festival is this weekend. We love the food, hate the crowds. Saturday night we went with our friends, Jeremy, Cheryl, Drew, and Andy, and we took both kids. Payton really enjoyed watching the Greek kids dance, and she put on a little dance show of her own. She also enjoyed the Greek desserts! The air is getting cooler at night, and we are looking forward to fall, and bonfires at the Boughman's house! Speaking of....we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their daughter, due October 8th! Sure to be Griffin's girlfriend :)

I finally have Griffin's room pretty much done, with the exception of finding a rug. I ordered one that I love, but I thought it was a Carolina blue, when in fact it is more of a turquoise, so it will be sent back :( I will post pictures of the nursery this week...

Until then...off to have a glass of wine while the babies are sleeping. We'll be watching football tomorrow and don't forget to pull for my Pats on Monday night!! xoxo
